The central heat pump and air conditioning system is integrated with an industrial size wood furnace that is extremely efficient. We ran the wood furnace the month of February and the total electric bill was $89.00 and the propane used was next to nothing - the propane was used only for cooking and the gas clothes dryer. I tried to get a good picture of it, but really couldn't get back far enough to get it all in. The system also has an humidifier installed to inject moisture when using the wood heat, which can be very dry.......

The furnace is housed in a connected building with outside door for firewood access. The heat pump unit is located just outside this building, the condenser unit can be seen in the photo on the right-hand side. The humidifier unit is the dark grey unit just above that in the photo. The heat strip bank is below these next to the floor and only works when we request it to from the programmable thermostat control inside the house. The heat furnace also is controlled from inside as is the humidifier.

The building housing this unit also has a 1000 gal cistern beside it with a self-draining roof washer. It is really great for watering the garden and raised beds, no chlorine - just clean rainwater.

There is also a back up system inside the house, a wall mount propane-fired 30,000 BTU heater (just in case of power failure, which doesn't happen often) Above this unit is also a propane fired light that burns similar to a coleman-style lantern. There is also the fireplace of course.
